International Search News Brief

Here are some updates on international search engine news:

  • Yahoo! and Nokia have signed a deal to bring Yahoo!’s oneSearch to some series 60 Nokia devices (like the N70 and E65). A small downloadable application to the phone is all that is needed to get started with a one-click connection of Yahoo! search. This is currently available in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. Nokia hopes to expand this to more phone models in the near future.
  • More numbers about the spike in internet traffic from the Olympics are coming in. In the UK, the opening ceremony caused a five-fold increase in traffic, directed mostly to the BBC’s website. The BBC carried a live stream of the opening ceremony, and most of the data suggests that people were watching online from their computers at work.
  • An Aussie SEO reminds us that there’s still a way to go in the international SEO field. S/he writes about the lack of good web 2.0 concerning local and small business Austrialian websites. What do you think? Is your region taking advantage of web 2.0 and SEO?
  • Google AdWords announced an update to Quality Score for its PPC program. This means that inactive keywords will be switched back on and elegivle to compete for ad placements as Quality Score will now be calculated dynamically. Make sure your PPC campaigns are optimized and that any inactive keywords you don’t want to compete for placement are paused or deleted.
